Research

The Environmental Systems Analysis Research Center (ESARC) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit research organization. ESARC was established primarily to conduct targeted research on regional climate and environmental change, large-scale physical oceanography and ocean-ice-atmosphere system dynamics, as well as environmental remote sensing from satellite-borne sensors. The Arctic, the high northern latitudes and the North Atlantic realm are our areas of particular interest.

ESARC activities include projects funded by national and international, intergovernmental agencies. ESARC is by design a low-overhead, Principal Investigator-led, non-profit research organization, in order to most effectively carry out research projects independently and in partnership with other research organizations and universities. Research-education coupling, particularly at the university level, is an important element of our foundation.

ESARC's proximity to the University of Colorado at Boulder and internationally recognized research centers and agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) enhances opportunities for collaboration between ESARC and our colleagues at those institutions.  Formal research and ad hoc collaborations with other research groups nationally and internationally are also of interest, particularly regarding NSF and NASA research programs.
